Harry knows that pensioners can make a difference
In March this year Parliament will vote to decide whether to continue the nuclear weapons system. This decision, once taken, will commit Britain to another 30 or 40 years of nuclear weapons at a cost of between £20 - 70 billion.
Now is the best chance, last chance even, to have an effect or influence, on the decision to be taken in March 2007. It seems to me that only protest by masses of people willm stand a chance of infuencing Palriament in its decision in March.
I am a pensioner, still fit and able, of independent means (my pension). I have no mortgage round my neck, no debt, and a bus pass from the Scottish Executive.
If the Trident renewal programme continues for 40 years, it will be paid for by my children and grandchildren. Continued expense on Trident is the height of financial stupidity. Education, hoispitals, health care, pensions, even soldiers with proper equipment are all a better use of the nation's resources. Trident deters no-one.
Pensioners are the best group of people to make the necessary protest against Trident. With the Faslane 365 group, who are organising protests at Faslane over 365 days, a days protest of Pensioners is being called on 14th February - St.Valentines Day.
In the short time available, I and speakers from Faslane 365, would be willing to come and meet any groups of pensioners who would like more information on Faslane and the Valentine Day Protest.
