Kingston Report by Rosemary
We were only 12 so did not actually get arrested or do a proper blockade, though 6 were initially willing this dropped to 4, so it seemed it would be a fruitless gesture as there were at least twice the no. of police as us at all times!
However, most of the police were pleasant, we had wonderful weather, our banners were eye-catching, and we had good contacts with the Peace Camp, so it was generally a rewarding experience.
We spent a lot of time leafleting the cars as they drew up to the roundabout, and although the take-up rate seemed slow, we did give out about 100. Later when we got back I received a phone call from Fred Booth, Church of Scotland Minister, who was most impressed with the leaflet, and asked for me to send him more to be used in a couple of church meetings, which I did. Apparently very few groups are leafleting, perhaps more groups should do this as it would perhaps help in the tricky situation with local residents being necessarily so inconvenienced with the blockades, due to the single road and the closeness of gate and roundabout to it.
