Bruce Gagnon of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space Speaking

Announcement:

Bruce Gagnon will be speaking on US plans for National Missile Defence at
Faslane Saturday 8th of Sept at 2pm in a Keep Space for Peace event as part of the Faslane365 yearlong blockade of the Trident sub base.

Bruce is coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space.

For anyone unable to travel to London for the CND Conference on Europe-wide opposition to the US National Missile Defence programme this is an opportunity to hear a report on the conference and a talk on the dangerously provocative new US weapons system— often known as ‘Star Wars’.

Bruce’s tour of the UK and the CND conference follow the Prague Conference in May where delegates from 9 European countries came together to formulate strategies and joint campaigns to oppose US plans for National Missile Defence. The system will use radars to detect incoming missiles, and interceptor missiles to shoot them down. While the US portrays this as a defensive system, in reality it will allow the US to launch attacks on other countries without fear of retaliation. It is already adding to global instability and tension with Russia. It is already leading to a new nuclear arms race. And it may well lead to a new Cold War.

Britain already hosts NMD bases at Fylingdales and Menwith Hill in
Yorkshire, without any public or parliamentary consultation. Now, the
US wants to put bases in Poland and the Czech Republic. This has caused
considerable concern not only to Russia, but also to the populations of
Poland, the Czech Republic and across Europe.

Now is the time to say no to NMD, no to a new nuclear arms race, and no to a new Cold War.
