German Group Blockades Road to Faslane for Three Hours

A group of 25 people from Germany blockaded the road between Helensburgh and Her Majesty's Naval Base in Faslane,Scotland on March 28th stopping all traffic for almost three hours. All 25 protesters got arrested by the police for breach of peace. Their aim was to keep as many people as possible from going to their work places on the nuclear submarine base and not letting them doing their deadly work of preparing mass murder.

At the same time that morning a supporting vigil took place at the British Embassy in Berlin.

Following the decision of the British Parliament on March 14th the ongoing protests at Faslane took on an international dimension with a Spanish protest action last week and 20 French protesters arrested yesterday the 26th. The British nuclear weapons are seriously concerning people all over Europe.

One part of the German group consists of experienced protesters whose successful protests led to the removal of the American nuclear weapons Pershing II and Cruise Missiles stationed in Germany in the 1980s. But a large part of this German group are students and other younger people who wanted to carry their protest right to where the weapons of mass destructions are. They risked arrest and further prosecution because they feel they need to stop nuclear deterrent that creates a world of hostility rather than a world of international understanding.

Felix Wuensche, a student from Berlin, says 'If nuclear weapons are being renewed instead of being completely dismantled in Great Britain this is a worldwide problem. These weapons create a constant inequality of power and that is why I am here.
