MPs, MSPs, MEPs to Blockade Faslane Monday 8th January

A group of elected representatives, including members of the Westminster, Scottish, Welsh, Dutch and European Parliaments, and local councillors, will on Monday 8th January play their part in the Faslane 365 continuous blockade of the British WMD base.

Coming from a wide array of political parties (Labour, SNP, Greens, Dutch Socialist, Solidarity, SSP) the 30 or so representatives with gather at 10 a.m. at the north gate of the base. Following a series of short speeches some of the group will risk arrest by blocking the gateway.

A spokesperson for Faslane 365 said:

"The UK government has no intention of fulfilling its obligations under the Non Proliferation Treaty and of abiding with international law by decommissioning Trident. Monday's blockade will make it clear that there are elected representatives who participate in resistance to Trident, and that there are parties whose commitment to the removal of nuclear weapons is unwavering and unqualified. This is a great encouragement."

41 separate groups have already taken part In the Faslane 365 campaign, which began on October 1st, and there have been 429 arrests.
