Plaid President thanks arrested politicians

Plaid President Dafydd Iwan has expressed his wholehearted support to the members of Plaid Cymru and the SNP who took part in the latest demonstration in Faslane against the proposed Trident replacement programme.

Speaking this weekend, he said:

"At a time when we are facing drastic cuts in public services, and at a time when the health service cannot cope with the growing demands upon it, it is absolutely obscene to even contemplate spending more than £25 billion on a Trident replacement. Local authorities are under immense pressure to cut spending."

Dr. Iwan added:

"And after every possible efficiency saving is done, there will still have to be cuts in public services as well as a rise in council tax. And yet we are supposed to quietly accept that spending millions every day on the Iraq war disaster, and billions on an obsolete nuclear weapon system which cannot protect us from international terrorism, as inevitable.

"I thank Jill Evans and Leanne Wood for standing up for the people of Wales in saying that we cannot tolerate this travesty any longer."
